Sustainable dyeing of recycled and degradable PES fibers

COOLDYE

How recycled rPET and sustainable innovations are shaping the textile industry

In 2021, polyester was the most widely used fiber worldwide, with a production of 60.5 million tons, of which 15% was recycled polyester (rPET). By 2025, an increase to 69 million tons and an rPET share of 17% is expected.

In view of the growing importance of recycling and degradable fibers, the textile industry is showing increased interest in sustainable dyeing solutions. In this context, COOLDYE offers a progressive approach.

All-round optimized dyeing

COOLDYE is a sustainable dyeing process for recycled, degradable and new standard PES fibers. It enables dyeing at a lower temperature, which saves a lot of energy. In the COOLDYE process, two cycles flow into each other with regard to the fiber: the technological (recycled PET) and the biological (improved biodegradability).

The COOLDYE system was developed with bio-based auxiliaries. The process combines the soy-based levelling agent SARABID TS 300 and the sugar cane-based reduction agent REDULIT GIN to achieve a maximum sustainable dyeing process.

The system is supplemented by BEMACRON HP-LTD disperse dyes, which specifically support the energy- and time-saving low-temperature dyeing process.

Energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, optimum use of water

Main advantages of the COOLDYE process

  • In combination with BEMACRON HP-LTD dyes, PES fibers can be dyed at lower dyeing temperatures - 110-120°C instead of 130°C. With optimum parameters, electricity savings of 21% andsteam savings of 24% per kilogram of fabric can be achieved.
  • The COOLDYE process uses bio-based and easily degradable auxiliaries such as SARABID TS300 and REDULIT GIN, which contributes to environmental sustainability.
  • Due to low dyeing temperatures, time savings of up to 8% are possible compared to standard dyeing processes.
  • Low-temperature dyeing guarantees optimum textile properties for further processing and good reproducibility.
  • REDULIT GIN makes it possible to reduce water consumption, as it can be used directly after dyeing without draining the dye bath (one-bath process).
  • Textiles dyed with COOLDYE are Cradle to Cradle certifiable.
