Mainly biocides and algicides are used on façade surfaces to reduce algae and fungus. Biocides slow down the growth of algae, but do not prevent it. It is known that dark paint and plaster coatings have much less algae and fungus growth than light-coloured plasters.
Dark façades heat up faster in the sun, and the evaporation of condensation and rain water is quicker. In this way the moisture is withdrawn from the algae and fungus and their growth is prevented.
With CALOR PLUS in light-coloured façade coatings the same effect is achieved and it is called “warm white“.
CALOR PLUS is a mineral pigment for paint and plaster systems. The pigment absorbs more infrared radiation and converts this to heat. The higher surface temperature allows for a quicker drying of rain and condensation water on the façade surface. As a result, there is no livelihood for the growth of algae and microbial contamination. The functional surface coating allows for the reduced application of fungicides and biocides. Owing to the mineral composition, pigments of the CALOR PLUS series remain permanently effective.
By applying a low amount of CALOR PLUS, the surface temperature can be increased by more than10 °C. Thus, the coating system modified with CALOR PLUS has an approx. 20 % quicker drying speed after raining or formation of condensation water.
