Double award for textile concrete research C³ project with CHT participation

The CHT Group is a worldwide strong partner for approximately 40 industries.
For more than 60 years, our products and services support production processes and optimise properties of products.

Again and again we open new markets through innovations and strategic visions also together with strong partners and within various research projects.

Ever since being launched, the CHT Group has been participating in the largest German building research project C³ – Carbon Concrete Composite which was now awarded with the German sustainability prize in the category research.

Moreover, the research project was awarded the German Raw Material Efficiency Prize. Together with the German Raw Material Agency (DERA), the Federal Ministry for Economy and Research honoured four companies as well as a research institute for being outstanding examples of an intelligent use of materials.

The ambitious project with more than 130 partners working on research and establishment of the new building material carbon concrete, prevailed against 87 research projects “from all well-known German research centres and numerous smaller scientific institutes” (see also

In the award assessment, the Foundation German sustainability prize emphasized that the research and establishment of the new building material C³ and development of a new way of construction offers a very promising concept for a paradigm change in the building industry and thus in city development.

“It is a great honour for us that our topic received so much appreciation. We are convinced that in about ten years approx. 20 % of reinforced concrete can be replaced through carbon concrete” so the words of Prof. Klaus Raps, deputy chairman of the C³ Carbon Concrete Composite e.V.

The research prize which had been started off by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and was awarded for the 8th time this year was entitled “Science Year 2015 – Future City” focusing on the sustainable development in urban areas. The C³ project sets accents for sustainable building. Carbon concrete allows for sustainable, flexible and durable building and paves the way for a totally new stylistic idiom in architecture and urban development.

C³ Carbon Concrete Composite – short and concise

The interdisciplinary C³ Carbon Concrete Composite project is one of the ten sponsored projects belonging to the programme »Twenty20 – Partnership for Innovation« of the initiative »Regional Companies« of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research. The Technical University Dresden is head of this consortium. The C³ project develops together with more than 130 partners from research, companies and associations a new material composite consisting of carbon fibres and high efficiency concrete. Flexibility and durability of carbon concrete is a sustainable alternative to reinforced concrete and saves not only up to 50 % material, but also opens new architectural design options by its light weight and free formability.
