Modern silicones offer individual solutions for improved production runs, e.g. prevention of foam formation, up to an improved penetration of finishing stocks or handle modifiers. Aminofunctional siloxanes are an important product group in the segment of handle-providing agents for finishing. The different aminosiloxanes vary in terms of the siloxane chain length and the modification degree which is reflected in the nitrogen content. Apart from non-reactive aminosiloxanes there is also the product class of reactive aminosiloxanes which have an even better permanency. For an easy introduction into aqueous systems the product range is supplemented by numerous emulsions.

In the silicone oils with quaternary modification, the so-called silicone quats, the nitrogen groups are quaternised in a special process. CHT/BEZEMA also offers ready-for-use emulsions for this field to guarantee an easy and efficient introduction into aqueous finishes. Silicone quats have a high substance activity out of aqueous formulations together with a good gloss and a specific, waxy soft handle. Silicone quat emulsions are also suited for polymer-free finishes.

Silicone polyethers are polydimethyl siloxanes which are modified with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide segments. The modification of the hydrophobic siloxane chain with hydrophilic polyether groups leads to products with a distinct surface activity. Therefore, these products are excellently suited as wetting and flow agents for aqueous finishes. The modified silicone polyethers guarantee optimum wetting during the application of the aqueous finish and afterwards a homogeneous, even film formation and thus successful finishing.

Almost any process for producing leather is effected in aqueous systems which often have problems with foam. If foam strongly develops, the results during the dyeing process or the greasing process may be impaired. Moreover, such foam problems may occur in finishing or in the water treatment. Modified silicone polyethers which control the foam formation without impact on the process are available for these application fields.
